Teigh Old Rectory

Local Area

Teigh is between Melton & Oakham, just on the border with Leicestershire. It is an agricultural area, and close to the Vale of Belvoir famed for Stilton Cheese, which is produced in local dairies. Belvoir castle has a wonderful position overlooking the vale, and on the right day you can see to Lincoln & Newark. Southwell Minster and Bottesford Church are both worth a visit. To the South is Burghley House, and the pretty town of Stamford, with excellent food at the George Hotel. Hambleton Hall Hotel is on the Hambleton penninsular at Rutland Water, where walking & cycling are catered for. Kirby Hall, Rockingham Castle, and Deene Park (Home of Lord Cardigan's family) are all near Corby.

There are good markets in Oakham, Uppingham & Melton, which still has a cattle market every Tuesday.

There are still plenty of horses kept for hunting, and from September to the end of March hounds from 1 of the 3 Leicestershire packs (Quorn, Cottesmore & Belvoir) will be out nearly every day of the week.

River Witham near Grantham, on its way to Belton House.
